Women's costume inspiration for Halloween 2017...

Yesterday I shared ten Halloween costume ideas for men and today it's the turn for some female costume inspiration from the world of film and television, including comic book, fantasy, sci-fi, historical and fairytale looks.

Wonder Woman
Gal Gadot Wonder Woman movie costume
First up following her debut box office-smashing solo movie outing is Wonder Woman and the costume worn by Gal Gadot as the Amazon warrior princess. The great thing about this heroic cloaked look, by Costume Designer Lindy Hemming, is that it'll also keep you warm whilst you're haunting the city streets this Halloween.
The Handmaid's Tale Offred
Elisabeth Moss Handmaids Tale Offred costume
Next up is the iconic red Handmaid costume from the Emmy-winning drama adapted from Margaret Atwood's 1985 dystopian future novel. This costume worn by Elisabeth Moss as Offred and the other looks in the Hulu show were designed by Ane Crabtree, and their white bonnets and red cloaks would make for a spectacular group Halloween look.

Beauty and the Beast Belle
Emma Watson Beauty and Beast live-action Belle costume
Fans of Disney princesses can also be the Belle of the ball this Halloween by emulating Emma Watson's fairytale ballgown from the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast, designed by Jacqueline Durran.

Plus fans can also check out more classic Disney looks from this year's D23 Expo fan event which featured iconic villain and heroine movie wardrobes.

Jyn Erso
Felicity Jones Rogue One Jyn Erso movie costume
For an out-of-this-world costume, maybe the reluctant heroine Jyn Erso played by Felicity Jones in Rogue One would be more your cup of tea. Glyn Dillon and David Crossman were co-Costume Designers of the Star Wars prequel responsible for recreating the retro space looks of a galaxy far, far away.

Queenie Goldstein
Queenie Goldstein Fantastic Beasts costume
If you wanted to feel a bit more magical this Halloween, maybe Alison Sudol's Queenie Goldstein from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the 1920s New York period look to go with your wand. Colleen Atwood won her fourth Oscar for her costume designs for this Harry Potter spin-off prequel.

Jackie Kennedy
Natalie Portman Jackie Kennedy film costume
For another classic look, maybe you could channel Jackie Kennedy in her iconic pink suit and pillbox hat from the 1960s. Costume Designer Madeline Fontaine tried to match the original outfit that Natalie Portman wore in last year's biopic.

Assassin's Creed Maria
Ariane Labed Assassins Creed Maria film costume
If it's a fierce warrior you'd like to represent with your fancy dress this Halloween, maybe this Maria costume from Assassin's Creed worn by Ariane Labed and designed by Sammy Sheldon and Tim Wildgoose is the deadly look for you.

Queen Victoria
Judi Dench Victoria Abdul movie costume
For another strong woman, look not further than Queen Victoria and this Scottish-inspired regal costume worn by Dame Judi Dench in the new movie Victoria & Abdul. The costumes for the British monarch were designed by Consolata Boyle and would be a great way to rule the spooky streets this October.
Holly Golightly
Big Little Lies Audrey Hepburn costume
For more fun costumes ideas you need look no further than the Emmy-winning costumes designs from HBO's Big Little Lies limited series. Alix Friedberg designed the Audrey Hepburn-inspired film looks for the drama's school charity gala inspired by Audrey Hepburn and Elvis Presley, which featured outfits including Reese Witherspoon's Madeline character paying homage to Holly Golightly from 1961's Breakfast at Tiffany's. I think this is quite fun and an easy look to recreate.
Katana
Karen Fukuhara Suicide Squad Katana movie costume
And finally, this Katana outfit from the Suicide Squad movie was another one of the cool costumes I spied at exhibits on my travels this past year. Karen Fukuhara played the martial arts expert and Kate Hawley was Costume Designer on the DC Comics adaptation.

If the ten eclectic looks above haven't helped inspire you, maybe also take a look at all these other movie and TV costumes for women from years gone by that may help you decide on a Halloween look this year.

Plus check out all these on-the-street looks from West Hollywood's Halloween festivities for even more costume inspiration.

Men's Halloween costume inspiration for 2017...

This year I'm really struggling with my look for Halloween, and as the countdown has begun to the witching hour I thought I'd take look back at some of the cool costumes that have graced the big and small screen this past twelve months from the worlds of sci-fi, fantasy and horror for inspiration.

Pennywise
Bill Skarsgård Pennywise clown costume IT movie
One horror-themed costume I think will be in abundance, along with a sky full of red balloons, is Bill Skargård's Pennywise the clown from the new IT movie designed by Janie Bryant (and I'm sure more than a few examples of Tim Curry's 1990 mini-series version too).
Star-Lord
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Star Lord costume
For something a little lighter and more marvelous, you could always go as Chris Pratt's cosmic Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 by Costume Designer Judianna Makovsky, or his Star-Lord look from the first movie with its distinctive mask.

Thor: Ragnarok
Chris Hemsworth Thor Ragnarok film costume
Plus another Marvel hero getting a refreshed wardrobe in his third solo outing this November is the Asgardian God of Thunder, with Chris Hemsworth receiving a cosmic gladiator makeover in Ragnarok courtesy of Costume Designer Mayes C. Rubeo. If you want a more traditional look for the mighty warrior though, you can also check out his cool Thor costume from Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Ghost Rider
Gabriel Luna Agents of SHIELD Ghost Rider costume
From the world of Marvel's TV offering, the 'Robbie Reyes' version of Ghost Rider made his debut in the latest fourth season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., played by Gabriel Luna with costume design by Ann Foley. Pair this cool leather driving jacket with a skull mask and you've got a fierce look for any Halloween party.

Doctor Strange
Benedict Cumberbatch Doctor Strange movie costume
If demonic costumes are not your style, then maybe another magical Marvel cinematic outfit would be more to your liking, Doctor Strange, designed by Alexandra Byrne. With your own Cloak of Levitation and Eye of Agamotto necklace you'll soon resemble Benedict Cumberbatch's Master of the Mystic Arts.

Newt Scamander
Newt Scamander Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them costume
Meanwhile for another magical look, this time from the wizarding world of Harry Potter, then maybe Eddie Redmayne's Newt Scamander period wardrobe is the costume you're looking for, designed by Colleen Atwood. Just remember your wand and suitcase full of fantastic beasts to complete the illusion.

Assassin's Creed Aguilar de Nerha
Michael Fassbender Assassins Creed Aguilar movie costume
If you're feeling daring and deadly this Halloween, maybe you'll take your inspiration from the video game-turned-movie, Assassin's Creed, and Michael Fassbender's master assassin Aguilar de Nerha, with costume design by Sammy Sheldon Differ.

Captain Cassian Andor
Star Wars Rogue One Cassian Andor movie costume
For more outer space inspiration maybe Diego Luna's Captain Cassian Andor is the heroic costume you're looking for from Star Wars: Rogue One.

Director Orson Krennic
Director Orson Krennic Rogue One film costume
But if you're thinking you'd prefer something more villainous for Halloween, them maybe Ben Mendelsohn's Imperial Director Orson Krennic will help inspire some fear amongst all the other scum and villainy. Both Rogue One looks were the creations of co-Costume Designers David Crossman and Glyn Dillon.

Beauty and the Beast's Lumière
Ewan McGregor Beauty and Beast Lumiere costume
And finally, if you're a romantic at heart then maybe this fairytale Lumière costume worn by Ewan McGregor and designed by Jacqueline Durrant for Disney's live-action musical, Beauty and the Beast, will make your heart soar.

Do these ten outfits I've spied on my travels at exhibits over the past year give you any pause for thought?

Last year I went to West Hollywood's Halloween festivities as Dead Robin and in previous years I've been a Zombie Wonder Woman and a Zombie Bride, so I really need to make my decision soon and get cracking.

For more men's Halloween costume ideas be sure to check out all these screen-worn costumes on display at previous movie and TV exhibits.

Meanwhile if you're looking for costume ideas for women then stay tuned in the days to come.
